Product information

The worship of Linga and Yoni originated from the tribes of the Sumerian and Dravidian tribes of the Indus. Their beliefs are associated with the mythology of the divine spirit and the veneration of the soul, the female cliché being the source of all creativity. Beside the gods, there is the god Nam, represented by the stone plate penis.

Linga and Yoni in My Son

Linga and Yoni are not only worshiped in India, but are also cultivated in many Southeast Asian countries influenced by Indian culture, including Champa. When Hindu mythology was born, according to Siva mythology, This first appeared as a pen-shaped fire. Later, people symbolized (Linga and Yoni) to worship Siva, considering Linga as a positive attribute, Yoni is the expression of the negative nature of the god. The Linga-Yoni is a symbol of Siva's creativity combined with Yoni or Linga-Yoni. In this form, Siva is also known as the "Spirit of Sleep".

But Linga and Yoni in Champa have their own characteristics and no other country has Linga and Yoni in large numbers, shapes and sizes as large as in Champa. The Linga-Yoni of Champa is the most powerful manifestation of the Champaization of Indian religious elements.

Ministry of Linga-Yoni in the Museum of Cham Cham Sculpture

Linga forms in Champa come in a variety of styles and designs, including:

Linga in cylindrical shape: Typical Linga in Yoni in Hoa Lai tower, Linga in Yoni in Poragar tower (middle tower), Linga in Yoni in B1 My Son tower, Linga Chanh Lo, Linga in Bang An.
Type of block, Lotus wing decoration: Linga in Thu Thien, around the bottom Linga decorated stylized Lotus wing.
Linga is only a four-sided block: the lower part, the upper part is gradually shrunk and bunched up, like the lotus shape (Linga in the north of the Porome tower, some people think of the Kut statue).
Linga is composed of two parts: the head type is round, the lower part is square, which is Linga in the western tower of the temple group Pagar.
The Linga is composed of two parts: the upper part is the round cylinder, the lower part is the octagonal block (it is said that it actually has three parts, the bottom part of the block has flooded into Yoni).
The Linga has three distinct parts: the upper part is a circular cylinder, the middle part is the octagonal block, the last part associated with Yoni is square. This type is quite popular in Champa such as Linga in Binh Dinh, Linga in My Son, Tra Kieu, Linga in Linh Thai. But in the Champa stone sculpture, there is no popular type of Mu kha-Linga (Linga with Siva face), only two cases are Linga on Yoni in the core of Po clon Garai (Phan Rang) and Po Ngu (Phan Thiet).
The Yoni type in Champa, like Linga, is also very delicate:

Yoni in My Son

The shape of blocks decorated with lotus like Yoni in tower B1 My Son, in Tra Kieu, in Linh Thai ... -Yoni rectangular or near the square like Yoni in Po Nub Kan Temple, Pagagar Tower, My Son Holy, Tea Kao ...
Yoni Special: This type is also round shape, but around the back decorated female breast like Yoni tower, Yoni Son Dynasty.

Linga circular block in My Son

Usually, Linga and Yoni combine to form a body called Linga-Yoni. Most of Yoni's pedestal, on which a Linga is depicted, but in the Champa sculpture there is a case where the pedestal is displayed on it, and more specifically on Yoni is replaced by Linga in human form (or god ) sitting on it, like the Yoni in My Son G1, depicts a god sitting on a pedestal with Naga snakes - on top of which there are five Naga snakes that cover the Yoni pedestal.

Thus, Linga and Yoni in Champa sculpture are very diverse and can be implicated in many different meanings. Certainly not merely a symbol of Siva in the ordinary way of thinking. Therefore, there are still many different opinions on the interpretation of Linga, Yoni in Champa sculpture.
